1. Who we are

Biographical Films of Chicago, Illinois ("we," "us," or "our") makes documentary films about people's lives. This policy explains what information we collect through biographicalfilms.com, how we use it, and the choices you have.

We collect only what you choose to send us through our forms, plus standard analytics and advertising data gathered by Google and Meta. We do not sell your personal information.

2. Information you give us

When you fill out our application form or our Contact page form, we receive what you type, such as:

  • Your name, email address, and phone number

  • Information about the person whose story you hope to tell, which may include family background, important places in their life, and whether photos or videos exist

  • Anything else you choose to include in your message

If you apply on behalf of someone else, please share their information only with their permission. You can leave out anything you prefer not to share; we may simply ask about it later in conversation.

3. Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the site, such as which pages are viewed, how long visits last, and the general region and type of device used. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to collect this information. It does not tell us who you are, and we do not combine it with what you submit through our forms.

You can learn more in Google's explanation of how it uses data from sites that use its services.

4. Advertising

We advertise through Google and Meta (Facebook and Instagram). To measure those ads and show them to people likely to be interested, these companies may place cookies or similar tags on our site. They collect anonymous information such as the pages you visit and whether you arrived from an ad.

We receive only aggregate reports from Google and Meta, not information that identifies you. Google and Meta handle this data under their own privacy policies, and you can control ad personalization through the settings in Section 7.

  • Service providers. Companies that run parts of our site, such as website hosting, form delivery, and email, process information on our behalf.

  • Our storytellers. If your application moves forward, we may share what you submitted with the biographer and production team assigned to your film.

  • Legal reasons. We may disclose information if the law requires it or to protect our rights or the safety of others.

8. Retention and security

We keep form submissions only as long as we need them to respond, to make a film you have agreed to, or to meet legal obligations. If an application does not move forward, you can ask us to delete it at any time.
